Duties:

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is a professional public safety agency made up of dedicated professionals who work hard to improve the quality of life as well as prevent the unnecessary loss of life on a daily basis.


This is what you will do:

As an expert level lead network technician of the WSP, this position is responsible for the network hardware, network configurations, and network administration inside the State Data Center (SDC) and the Quincy Disaster Recovery site.


This position assists the agency Network Engineering Manager and performs highly-complex tasks such as conducting data network capacity planning to determine agency needs and make recommendations; designing complex agency-wide data network infrastructure crossing multiple data networks.


The position provides technology leadership for Information Technology (IT) network infrastructure and transport systems, which enables the agency to effectively engage in its public safety activities. The position sets direction and defines the Data Center technology infrastructure.



This is who you will work with:

You will provide advanced technical assistance to agency employees. You will work closely with peers, other IT Specialists, System Administrators, IT vendors, and Project Managers to complete work as assigned. You will interact directly with your supervisor regarding daily assignments, tasks, and project updates as well as ESD management on assigned work. You will also interact with internal and external customers in person, telephonically, and via email.

Position is issued a cellular phone and email device and is expected to monitor it Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and periodically when off duty and respond to notices and/or calls within two hours.


Travel:

This position requires travel and overnight stays anywhere statewide, with Quincy WA being a common work site. Travel includes typical rural and urban environments and may require 4 wheel drive utilization on unimproved roads. In addition, you may be required to travel statewide for agency and division functions, training, and project support.



Qualifications:



Required Qualifications:



+ High School completion or GED equivalent

+ 3 years experience configuring network routers; CISCO, Juniper, or Alcatel-Nokia

+ 2 years experience configuring data switches; preferably CISCO

+ Must possess or obtain a valid Washington State Drivers' License.


Desired Qualifications:



+ Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field of IT engineering.

+ 5 years of expert-level experience as an IT professional in an enterprise organization supporting 24x7 critical systems.

+ CISCO Certified Network Profession (CCNP):



+ Routing & Switching (R/S)

+ Data Center (DC)



+ CISCO Certified Design Associate (CCDA)

+ CISCO Certified Design Professional (CCDP)

The Washington State Patrol has strict guidelines relating, but not limited to, personal and employment characteristics, arrests, convictions, and illegal drug usage, etc.


During the polygraph examination, candidates are required to sign an assessment sheet and participate in an oral interview process to verify responses to the Personal Background Evaluation, the Personal History and Background Questionnaire, and a Pre-Employment Interview. Untruthful or misleading answers or omissions will be treated as a falsification which will be cause for rejection of potential employment.



TRANSCRIPTS:

Education verification is part of the selection process. If selected as a top candidate, position required and/or applicant specified education will be verified.
